Brazilian attacker Robinho started his international career at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup in United States and Mexico. Brazil opted to send their under-23 team to the tournament which was won by host nation thanks to the golden goal win over the Brazilians.

Robinho made his Brazil debut during the 1-0 defeat to Mexico in the opening game of the aforementioned tournament. In total, Robinho made five appearances at the tournament. He featured during the defeat to Mexico in the final.

In 2004, Robinho represented Brazil at the under-23 level netting three times in eight games. His first taste of senior team football came later that year as he came on for Edu during the 3-1 win over Bolivia in a 2006 World Cup qualifying clash played on September 4, 2004. Robinho scored his first goal for the Brazil senior team during the 7-1 win over hosts Hong Kong on February 9, 2005.

Robinho and Adriano were the Brazil attackers as they won the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany by seeing off Argentina in the final via a 4-1 scoreline. He was mainly used as a substitute at the 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament in Germany as Brazil crashed out in the quarterfinals thanks to the 1-0 defeat to France.

At the 2007 Copa America tournament, Robinhowas given the number 11 shirt previously won by his idol Romario in the absence of the main attackers. He scored all four of the group stage goals for Brazil, three goals in the 3-0 win over Chile and the winner from the penalty spot in the 1-0 win over Ecuador. Robinho and Brazil beat arch rivals Argentina 3-0 in the final to win the tournament.

Robinho was also at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament and the 2011 Copa America tournament. His Brazil career finished in 2017 with 28 goals in 100 games.
