AC Milan were coming on the back of a 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League. It was yet another result to add to the 2-1 win over Udinese in the Italian Serie A. These results have meant that AC Milan are now top of the Italian Serie A table ahead of rivals Juventus. The success in the Champions League and the domestic league was capped off with the brilliant 3-1 win over Cesena during the weekend.
Robinho’s return from injury has been a major boost for AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri. He was an influential player in the 4-0 defeat of Arsenal in the Champions League. He was once again impressive against Cesena as well. Despite going into the match as favourites, AC Milan had a lot to do in the match in order to prove that they were capable of winning the title ahead of Juventus. Despite playing the bottom club, AC Milan were up against a strong competition. Yet, the brilliant squad of AC Milan held together to win the match.
Former Portsmouth midfielder Muntari opened the scoring in the 29th minute, while Emanuelson soon doubled the advantage for AC Milan in the 31st minute. Robinho’s assist was the crucial part in the goal scored by Emanuelson. Finally, Robinho secured a much-needed goal that was to display his brilliance within the side. He scored in the 55th minute after an assist from Abate. The presence of Robinho did a lot to help AC Milan for with the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic from the side. Following the victory, AC Milan now have 50 points compared to the 49 points of Juventus.
