AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has left out star striker Robinho for the match against Siena during the weekend. The manager said that Robinho’s performances have not being good enough of late, and hence, he has decided to leave out the former Real Madrid striker out of the starting line-up. Robinho completed his permanent move to AC Milan a few seasons ago in the hope of becoming the best player in the world. He had a torrid spell at Manchester City he had to perform well above the expectations due to the fact that he was the star striker in the squad.
At AC Milan, Robinho’s performances have been poor of late. In the 26 matches he has played for AC Milan this season, Robinho has scored only five goals. He missed a great opportunity against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League early on in the match. Had he scored the goal, things would have certainly been different for the Italian club. The 0-0 draw in the first leg was followed by a 3-1 defeat at the Camp Nou. Hence, AC Milan paid the price for not being clinical in the first leg when they had opportunities to score mainly through Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“Robinho is not in a great moment, the other strikers are playing well so I prefer to let him rest,” said Allegri ahead of the meeting with Siena during the weekend. AC Milan currently trail leaders Juventus by three points. Further, Milan will also be having the Milan derby from now till the end of the season, while most of the matches are easy on paper for Juventus. Clarence Seedorf will also miss the match against Siena after suffering a calf injury. Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to be the top scorer in the Milan squad with 24 goals this season.
Brazilian club Santos could once again see their star asset in the form of Robinho after their president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro revealed that the AC Milan star is looking to come back to Brazil.
The 28-year-old has been a frustrated figure at the San Siro after failing to nail down a first-team place at the Italian club. He moved to AC Milan from Manchester City on the hope of becoming the best player in the world, but that has not materialised. As a result, Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has revealed that returning to Santos is one of the agendas on his mind at the moment.
Robinho moved to Manchester City for a then British Premier league record of £ 35 million, but failed to adapt to the demands of the English game. He moved to AC Milan on a loan deal in 2010, which was later converted into a permanent deal by AC Milan.
AC Milan secured his services by paying around £ 14.5 million to Manchester City and they will be looking to recoup most of the transfer fee. The Brazilian star was one among the best players for AC Milan in the 3-1 defeat against Barcelona a few weeks ago.
AC Milan forward Robinho has said that he considers Carlos Tevez to be a great striker and someone who will be of a valuable addition to the squad. However, he does not believe that the arrival of Carlos Tevez should mean the departure of Alexandre Pato.
It has been mentioned in some quarters that AC Milan will be willing to discuss a deal with PSG over the sale of Alexandre Pato, who has suffered a number of injury problems during his time with the Italian club. The recent takeover by Carlo Ancelotti at PSG has meant that the French club are now the favourites to sign the forward, who could cost around £25 million.
However, Robinho has said that AC Milan should not be selling Alexandre Pato just because he is injury prone at the moment. He believes that with the addition of Carlos Tevez to the current squad, AC Milan will be able to compete not only on the domestic front, but also on the European front as well. AC Milan have not been in the Champions League final since the last time they won it in 2007. Robinho says that even though the quality of the Argentine striker cannot be doubted, the presence of Alexandre Pato would add some valuable strength to the side.
“I’ve played with Tevez at City. I can guarantee that he is a great player. I would advise Pato to stay here at Milan. I think that he could win the Ballon d’Or one day,” Robinho told Il Corriere dello Sport. The striker also said that he is looking to improve his finishing skills to become the best player in the world. According to him, he can become a great player with 20 to 25 goals per season and the Champions League medal.
